Waterman House
Location
Orinda, California
Project type
Kitchen Remodel
Date
Feburary 2024
The kitchen in Marie Waterman’s mid-century home in Orinda was remodeled to create a more open and functional space while preserving the integrity of Sim Bruce Richards’ original design. Richards, an apprentice of renowned architect Frank Lloyd Wright, designed the home with a focus on harmony between architecture and nature. The remodel introduced a larger opening to improve flow between the kitchen and living areas, enhancing the natural light and connectivity Richards envisioned. It features sleek gray shaker cabinets, a central island for added workspace and gathering, and updated appliances that blend modern convenience with the home’s timeless aesthetic. This careful update honors both Richards’ architectural legacy and the home’s original character.
